Qantas
Policies verified March 2026
Qantas is Australia's flagship carrier and a solid choice for families on long-haul routes to Asia, Europe, and the US. Bassinet seats are available on most widebody aircraft, and the airline checks two infant items free. The main drawback for families is a strict ban on inflatable sleep devices, which limits toddler comfort options on overnight flights.

Can I bring a stroller on Qantas?
Qantas is moderately stroller-friendly. Compact pushchairs that fit standard carry-on dimensions (56x36x23 cm) can go in the cabin, though they count against your baggage allowance. Gate check is free for all prams as a complimentary infant item. Note that Dash-8 and E190 aircraft cannot accommodate gate-checked strollers at all.
Can I use a car seat on Qantas?
Qantas allows child restraints onboard but the process is more involved than most airlines. You need pre-approval at least 24 hours before departure, ideally a week out. Forward-facing seats for children 9-18 kg and rear-facing for under 9 kg are accepted, but booster seats are banned entirely. Check the table below to see which car seats fit.
Does Qantas allow toddler airplane beds?
Qantas is one of the strictest airlines for inflatable sleep devices. Plane Pal, Fly Tot, JetKids BedBox, and FlyLegs Up are all explicitly banned. The only exception is CoziGo bassinet covers. If your toddler needs a flat surface to sleep on long-haul Qantas flights, you are out of luck.

Other family amenities on Qantas
