Traveling with the Chicco KeyFit 30
Getting through the airport
The KeyFit 30 weighs 4.1 kg (4.1 kg) without the base, which is reasonable for an infant seat. It clicks into many stroller frames for easy airport navigation. You can also carry it by the handle, though that gets tiring over long terminal walks. A travel cart or compatible stroller frame is worth considering for connections.
Using it on board
At 43.2 cm wide, the KeyFit 30 fits well in most airline seats including narrower economy configurations. It installs rear-facing using the aircraft seat belt threaded through the belt path on the shell. The belt routing is clearly marked and parents find it intuitive. The seat sits at a good recline angle for sleeping infants on longer flights.
Good to know
The KeyFit 30 is FAA-certified for aircraft use but does not carry European EASA approval. If you are flying exclusively within North America, that is not an issue. It is a popular and affordable choice that works well as a dedicated travel seat. The base stays home since you only use the belt path on planes, saving weight in your luggage.
