Flyaway Designs Flyaway Kids Bed: Airline Approval
The Flyaway Kids Bed is a premium inflatable that creates a proper flat bed surface for kids. The quality is excellent and it supports children up to 50 kg. At 1.3 kg it adds some weight to your carry-on, but parents who fly long-haul regularly swear by it.

Packing and setup
The Flyaway Kids Bed packs down to just 25x24x9 cm and weighs 1.3 kg, small enough to slip into a backpack. Inflation takes about 90 seconds and the design includes raised bumpers on the sides that keep restless sleepers from rolling off. A support leg underneath keeps the bed stable and leaves floor space free for storing a bag. Setup is intuitive, though first-timers should practice at home once before flying.
Using it in flight
Parents consistently report impressive sleep results. On long-haul flights, toddlers have slept 7 to 8 hours out of 11, which is remarkable for economy class. The raised bumpers are especially helpful for kids who move around in their sleep. The 50 kg weight limit covers most children up to about age 10. On narrower aircraft or seats with limited legroom, the bed may not inflate fully and can encroach on the adjacent seat space.
Good to know
This is one of the pricier inflatable options, but many parents consider it worth the investment for frequent long-haul travel. Notable airlines like Emirates, United, and Qatar do not allow it. The bed works best in bulkhead rows or premium economy where there is more legroom. Be prepared for it to reduce your own leg space significantly, which is the main trade-off parents mention.
